New Mexico has a rocky gaming history. When the IGRA was signed by the House in 1989, it seemed like New Mexico might be one of the states to get on the Indian casino craze. Politics guaranteed that would not be the case.

The New Mexico governor Bruce King assembled a panel in 1990 to create an accord with New Mexico Amerindian bands. When the task force arrived at an accord with two prominent local tribes a year later, Governor King refused to sign the bargain. He would hold up a deal until Nineteen Ninety Four.

When a new governor took over in 1995, it appeared that Indian gambling in New Mexico was now a certainty. But when Governor Gary Johnson passed the contract with the American Indian bands, anti-gaming groups were able to tie the deal up in courts. A New Mexico court ruled that Governor Johnson had out stepped his bounds in signing a deal, thus denying the government of New Mexico hundreds of thousands of dollars in licensing fees over the next several years.

It required the CNA, passed by the New Mexico government, to get the ball rolling on a full compact between the Government of New Mexico and its Amerindian tribes. A decade had been lost for gambling in New Mexico, including Amerindian casino Bingo.

The nonprofit Bingo industry has increased from 1999. That year, New Mexico charity game providers acquired only $3,048. That climbed to $725,150 in 2000, and exceeded a million dollars in revenues in 2001. Not for profit Bingo revenues have grown constantly since then. 2005 witnessed the greatest year, with $1,233,289 earned by the providers.

Bingo is categorically favored in New Mexico. All kinds of providers look for a piece of the pie. With hope, the politicos are through batting over gambling as a key issue like they did back in the 90’s. That is most likely hopeful thinking.

There is an interesting history to the Cambodia casinos that lie just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where casino gaming is illegal. Eight gambling halls are established in a generally tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent spot, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The Naga gambling den never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of 21, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are 150 slot machine games and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machines and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international vacation and hotel complex that highlights many amenities accompanying the gambling hall, which provides 10,000 square feet of 130 one armed bandits and 88 gaming tables.

Arizona gambling halls are situated in the "valley of the sun," in the Southwestern area of the United States. An additional one of the larger Arizona gambling dens is the Desert Diamond Casino in Sahurita, with one hundred and eighty five thousand square feet of betting area, four hundred and ninety eight slots, 15 table games, and 4 eatery’s. The Desert Diamond Casino is open weekly, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and 24 hours on Saturday and Sunday. There are numerous other substantial Arizona casinos, which includes the Cliff Castle Casino in Camp Verde, with 140,000 square feet, 575 one armed bandits, and 10 table games; and the Gila River Casino – Vee Quiva in Laveen, with 89,000 square feet, 675 slots, and ten table games.
