There is a captivating history to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, where casino gaming is banned. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively small space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in a prime area, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few limitations requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; still, funding sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 17:00, and though visas are apparently required to cross, there are ways around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.
The first Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored ship gambling hall, highlights one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 60 tables. The Naga gambling hall is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. A total of one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machines and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the familiar table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive resort and hotel complex that highlights numerous amenities on top of the gambling den, which contains 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machines and eighty eight gaming tables.
