There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall gaming is not legal. Eight gambling dens are based in a relatively tiny location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect location, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The astonishing capital accrued from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a couple of limitations requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; however, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are allegedly required to cross, there are means around this, as is correct of most borders.
The initial Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored boat gambling den, contains one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty table games. The Naga gambling den is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long opened. There are 150 slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machines and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and 66 of the common table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight casinos in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational resort and hotel compound that contains many comforts accompanying the gambling den, which offers 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slots and 88 tables.
